A welcome packet can be a powerful tool to help churches communicate with visitors and newcomers. A well stocked welcome packet will let visitors know that you are pleased to meet them and you would like to share more with them about your church. Here is a list of suggested items to include in your church welcoming packet.
Business card of church/pastor – Churches can have business cards too. Business cards are the perfect way for visitors and members alike to keep up with church information. The front face of the card should have the church name and logo, address, phone number, pastor’s name, email, website, and service times. The back of the card can be used for the activity calendar with a list of groups, studies, Sunday school classes, etc and the meeting times for each.
Response card in a business card or postcard format – Business cards are so inexpensive that they make a great format for visitor response cards. If you are requesting only a brief introduction, then the business card format should suffice, allowing room for the visitor’s name, phone number or email address, and an indication of whether they would like to be contacted. If you would like to get a little more information, a postcard format might be a better fit.
"Greet me I’m a visitor" name labels – Labels are a great way to help introduce visitors to the congregation. Have some printed up with a fun and engaging phrase to help relieve the pressure of being labeled a visitor. Visitors have the option of wearing it or not. You may want to include a few extra in the welcoming packet that they can use for the next couple of visits.
Customized notepads and pens – The pen is good to have for filling out the response card, and once they get home the notepad and pen are sure to be used and remain as a reminder of your church. Hopefully they will bring them back when they return for sermon note-taking.
Informational booklet – The booklet printing format is a convenient way to share all your church has to offer with visitors. Booklet printing offers a more attractive, easy to read format than the standard brochure that has to be packed full of information. Booklet printing allows an appealing format for sharing the vision and purpose of your church, answering commonly asked questions, and educating readers about the different services, children's programs, small group ministries, various Bible study groups, etc without being cramped for space.
Magnets – Customized magnets are a great idea for welcome packets and are almost certainly going to be posted on a refrigerator as a frequent reminder. They can be special shapes and sizes but should have your church name and logo on them.
Information on the availability of podcasts or downloads on your website – Be sure to include information on how they can listen to podcasts if you have them available. This might be part of your business card or booklet printing content.
Calendars – Calendars are a great idea; they come in handy everyday and continue to be needed all year long! You can have them printed up to share with the congregation at the new year and also have extras on hand for your welcoming packets. Calendars could be in a wall or wallet format. Be sure you include the church name and logo in either format.
For convenience, calendars can be ordered from an online printing company along with your other printed materials. Getting everything from one place will not only help to cut costs but also keep your printing results similar, insuring a welcome packet that leaves visitors impressed.
